error code 41 - alternator problem?
When I tried starting my truck after work today things weren't right. I heard the normal click/thunk of the heater grid relays but then I heard it again real quick a couple times and noticed the WTS, WIF, BRAKE lights were dim and flickering. The dashlights returned to normal and I proceeded to start 'er up with no problems. All the gauges showed things were normal but the "check engine" light was on. Drove home with no problems.
When I got home I remembered how to access the error codes which gave me a "12", "41", "55". I've read here that 12 is start of codes, although at Allpar.com it is - battery or computer recently disconnected. 41 is - alternator field control circuit open or shorted and 55 is - end of codes.
What can be checked considering everything is working fine now.
I seems like it's a little slow turning over in the morning at 30+ degrees. Just a "freak" glitch? Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks, Chris

Well I started my truck last night and I am geting the same codes..
For me I can se that 12 would be true since i did change the battery a few times
but where and what is best to check for 41 code??
also how do you clear the codes, once you fix them???
I can not find a good clear answer to the last questions..
Thanks

I don't know about the codes but it is possible that you have a bad connection at the battery and it made connection when it started. That would explain the battery disconnected code and the flickering of the lights and so on.

Mine threw a 41 code once, at the same time I also noticed that the voltmeter was not as high on the gauge as is would normally be. Mine wound up being the alternator was going bad, drove it around for almost 2 weeks like that too.

Hi,
Mine turned out to be a fusible link that had burned through. It was in that gob of wires directly ahead of the relays on the left fender directly adjacent to the brake master cylinder. I had all of those symptoms and the repair of the link fixed it.
