Electrical Phenomonon

This Is In Regards To Holeshot 440. I Am Having The Same Problem Just Not Similar Symptoms. Diesel Dave Mentioned Crank Sensor, and Bc847 Mentioned Cam Sensor. Well I Don't Have Cam Sensor At Front Of Engine And Where Is Crank Sensor ? It Sounds Like One Of These Or The Other Could Be The Problem. By The Way I Used A 12v Out Of An 91.5 2500 For My Conversion Into An 85 D-350 Crew Cab. Can I Get Some Help???

If you search this forum for "crank sensor" you will find a lot of good information. The crank sensor is just above the harmonic balancer on the front of the engine at about 1:00. You need to check the gap (.050 between the sensor and the vibration dampener; use a brass feeler gauge, and make sure the sensor isn't by either the notches in the dampener) and also the wires because if the insulation wears off the wires, you will get an intermittent ground which tells the computer the engine isn't running--therefore you have no tach and the alternator doesn't charge, which is exactly what's happening to me. I haven't gotten a chance to check it out yet, but I'm pretty confident that's the problem. Good luck.

Is this crank sensor an automatic transmission only thing??

If there is one on my Ford conversion, it sure isn't hooked to anything.

The only wires, besides gauges, are the two on the injection pump(not sure without looking, but I don't think the lower one is connected to anything), and the one on the starter.

No grid heaters, no water-in-fuel, no fuel heaters.

If you have a non intercooled engine, the crank sensor isnt on it. If intercooled, it was stock, but could have been removed upon the conversion install.

The '91.5's never had a crank sensor. Your problem is likely with the voltage regulator.
