Eaten Shutdown Solenoid Question

My solenoid crapped out on me a few weeks back, so I pulled it out to find the usual chunk of rubber missing. I performed the grind down to fix it, but the amount of rubber missing appeared to be quiet substantial compared to the pictures I saw from searching the site. My question is this:

Where did that chunk of rubber go? I've read it will get stuck in the delivery valves. If so, where are they and how do I check them? Is there anywhere else i need to check?

The rubber disintegrates. I did it twice and gave up, but didn't have any problems with the pump or injectors.
