DYI alignment- questions D250

Guys,

So I was talking with a friend on the phone.. asked if he knew someone local that did good alignments. He said it's a truck, get a digital angle gauge from harbor freight , a level, and a tape measure. Said all his cars were done that way and as long as the caster is close- your good.

So I look at the "preferred" alignment specs in the dodge manual. I'm confused- why you'd ever set it with 1/2 degree of positive camber? I would think zero as I drive it no load 99% of the time. They said optimal was 1/2 of toe-in which seems like a lot.

Hoping someone can chime in and say yea it's easy and save your $75.
Anyone have data whom has had a D250/350 aligned which drove great afterward? Most alignment place provide before/after printouts in our area.

Sincerely,

Michael

Thanks...

I'll go 1/4 inch positive camber, and 1/8 inch toe in.

I'm still not completely grasping having positive camber on any vehicle. Maybe it goes slightly negative when the bed is loaded??

From what I understand, yes it will lessen when weight is added to the bed or added to the bumper because of the short upper control arms. If the upper arm was the same length as the lower and the both had the same axis, camber would remain constant. If your are not hauling/towing alot set it like I suggested and it will wear a tire perfectly flat. As a side note you may want to increase your total tow to around 1/4" if you have "some" looseness in your idler,Pitman,or tie rods......as caster will keep each tire pushing to the center of the truck, setting your toe more positive will have it at spec rolling down the road.
