Duak-disk clutches, for Getrag?

I am looking for dual-disk clutches for my Getrag. Just had my first pull tonight I pulled first slot so I got to go twice. More of the story to be in the Comp forum. Anyhoo, I am hooked and looking for a dual disk clutch. I slipped mine a bit the first time but not so much the second. I layed into it on the way home tonight and did not get any smell or slippage. I am going tomorrow night too

Thanks!

Jon

call Patty at Haisley Machine, dont call after noon though, cause she is processing orders and you will get the answering machine probably, she should be able to get you setup with what you need.

Better pick up a spare 'rag while you're at it. I've considered a DD when I upgrade so I can do boosted launches and 3rd gear burnouts etc etc...problem is the DD will simply move the weak link on down the line to the input shaft...and there's no upgrade for us in that department. Once that clutch hooks and the sled bears down on you, my guess is the input shaft will twist right in two...hopefully not taking out the front retainer on the 'rag when it does so.

Those dual disk are pretty extreme and pricey. Why not get something like a southbend FE? That should be plenty for you setup.

The FE is not a pulling clutch. It will hold a lot of power when engaged, but will not tolerate slipping. What is 'plenty' for a daily driver is not necessarily up to the absurd amount of abuse a pulling clutch has to endure. I'm not speaking from experience, just from what I've read in the competition forum. Basically, it's not cheap to pull, so do it once and do it right. dd clutch--big input shaft--nv4500--205--D80.

id like to talk to a machine shop too see what it would run to get one cut for the trucks, probably wouldnt be too expensive probably 1100 or so for the first one, maybe less.

Let me put it to you this way, Mike. Try redlining your engine, dumping the clutch, all the while hook to a monsterous 20,000 rock just trying to come outta the hole. I do not know if the sled weighed that much but I presume the DD ahs 2x-3x the amount of surface holding it.

Logan, I have friends that are machinists. You gave me a great idea! NOw to find a spare Getty.

Thanks for the info guys! Hooked again last night and went 212 feet with 800# more in the rear.

gonna have to find the base company that makes the billet blanks for the 4500 and find out if they can get some blanks cut for the G56, just got to send them a spare shaft, might as well send all the other shafts too cause breakage will go down the line.

I think the big problem with this picture is the week link being the getrag. If you want to hammer down with 20,000 LBs and a double disc, you had better be ready to pick up the pieces. The getrag is the weak link.
Im sure there is someone out there that can set you up with that combination, but for those of us that have put the power to our getrags know you may as well do an up date. NV4500 or NV5600.
I had 2 getrags go to pieces in 2 different trucks, I now have 1 with NV4500 and 1 with NV5600 both good transmissions.
Good luck with your pulling.
