Drum brake oil slinger cup?

I dove into my brakes this weekend, what a mess. The PO must have replaced the pass side brake drum and left off the cup that catches the oil if your seal is leaking. Well my seal was leaking and you can imagine the sludgy mess in there. They also beat the crap out of the one on the drivers side. I called my local dealer to check if they were avalable. They said they could get them but were about $40 each, Ouch! Does anyone know where I can get them online at a reasonable cost. Wondering if dana 60 and 70 use the same ones? There are some 3/4 ton vans at the local junkyard, but not any dodge trucks (3/4 or 1 ton).

I don't have a clue what you're talking about. Mine has a seal, but I've never seen this slinger/cup thing.

Doesn't the 3/4 ton axle have a single bearing setup?

No, that's the weenie "heavy half ton" Chrysler axle you're thinking of, Edwin. I had one of those on my '85 D250. A 3/4 ton CTD has a Dana 70 exactly like the 1 tons, only the overall width is different.

Well that's a good thing then. I had a 73 I think 3/4 ton Dodge van that had the "weenie "heavy half ton"" axle is the reason I asked. The 70 1 ton van I had had the good axle though not sure if it was a Dana. I hated to see that one die. It got rear ended by a Cadilac and bent the rear end housing so we sent it to the bone yard.

Wanna, I wasn't sure what to call it, but this is a stamped piece of metal that surrounds the hub on the inside. It fits between the the hub and the drum. If your seal is leaking the gear oil will drip into this piece and go out through the "vents" instead of getting all over your brakes. I had to seperate the hub and drum to get the one out they had mangled. Does that description help? It is a dana 70.

Ya mines got it and its in good shape! most guys rip them out cus its a lot harder to put the new seal in with the oil sheald, but it saves a edit of a lot of clean up time when the seals trys to fill the drum up with 90w!!!!
make a mess of the inside of you rims but much better to clean then the goow that happen in the drum!!

Dont now if there evan avalible thow

Yup, I've got 'em, and they're pretty beat, but they do work. Not sure where you might find them. I'll ask my buddy that owns a shop this afternoon.

Mine are both missing. Never even knew they were supposed to be there. Seems like a good idea. I might have to scare up a pair and put 'em in next time I have the drums off.

OK, so my options are- $40 each from the dealer (I had already checked, thanks for the PN), search the junk yard (still don't know if the dana 60 part is the same) , or omit them and hope for the best. The side that was missing the oil catcher had a cheap seal in it with no backing reinforcement (like autozone carries). I only use the Napa/chicago rawhide for applications like these. What do you think. If you guys saw the mess I had to clean up
