Can this turbo be used with our 1st gens? Does it bolt up with just minor exhaust mods?

It should bolt right up. The down pipe may be a little different.
Im thinking the air intake may be a bit bigger but dont know for sure.
I understand its a good turbo over the stock unit.

On that new of an HX35 the exhaust elbow is part of the turbo, it won't even work with a 1st gen. Your going to have to change the rear cover on the turbo over to the older style with the V-band style clamp. Plus I think it is necessary to shorten the down pipe about an inch with a wastegated housing.

Thanks guys.

So if I changed the stock exhaust housing on this turbo to the 14cm I have coming, it should work (other than moving the exhaust)?

As long as it has the right back plate the the flange for the v-band clamp it will work, its not necessary to change the whole housing if you don't have/want too, just the back plate. I have a WH1C at home with a 12cm wastegated I have to put on soon too.

I just swapped on an hx35w this weekend. Here is what needs to be done, shorten the downpipe an inch or so right after the flange, swap the oil line fitting from the H1C to the HX35W. Pick up an nice adjustable boost elbow from someone like TST, make a steel line from the intake manifold (head) to the wastegate on manual transmission models.

The HX35W spools like bad_ _ _ compared to the H1C, for added fun pitch the silencer ring.

That's good info for anyone wanting to do the swap.

Did your spoolup get quicker because you also swapped the 12cm housing along with the HX-35? If so, what housing did you have before for comparisons sake?

Is the H1C the original equipment?? If not, what is O.E.M.??

Compared to the stock turbo, how is this HX35W for heavy towing??

Compared to the stock turbo, what will it do for exhaust gas temperatures in a non-inter-cooled engine??

Thanks.

Yes, H1C is stock on 1st gens. I believe the non-intercooled trucks have a different (smaller) H1C though?

I would imagine the HX35 is great for towing. I'm sure someone here has one and can tell you.

If you're looking for a turbo upgrade, check out my review on the HTT Stage III H1C upgrade I just installed today. It's at the end of the "A little disappointed" thread that was started by xtremexj.

I'm running the basic BHAF from Fleet Filter (I think that's their name?). Not sure of the part number, but I found it by doing a search here on DTR. It was only about $40 w/shipping and my local Napa sells the same exact one for $80.

I needed a new hose clamp because the stock one wouldn't clamp down tight enough on the new filter. It seemed OK at first, but would fall off after a while and without any warning.

My truck spools quicker as I swapped on a complete HX35W that of course has the 12 cm housing. I had the stock H1C with a 16 cm housing.
