do diesels carbon up or something akin to it???

Hi all; I've had the truck for 3 weeks now ,and she seems to run nicer I,m on my 3rd tank of fuel all with heavy doses of Howes meaner cleaner [fresh oil]. truck is run every day at least once every few days I'll kick her down while on the freeway.... the first time i had a steady bellow of brownish grey smoke till i backed off not blue from oil not black from monsterous horsepower have done this 3 more times about 3 to 4 days apart and its less and less ligher and lighter so the question is if these trucks are putted and farted around by old farmers on little trips etc <past owner for 26000kms] do the heads get sooted up?? ....note no smoke @ normal driving

my early 91 does the same thing after driving short trips at low power, low temps,
punch it down and I get a big soot cloud. Run it hard and get a normal cloud.

my late 91 doesnt make soot/smoke ever, doesn't have the power of my early 91 though.

More likely clogged injectors and related components from what I've read, though cylinder buildup is certainly not out of the question. These engines were designed and constructed with hard work in mind. A fellow definitley isn't doing the mill any favors by 'going easy' on it all the time. I've had my truck since December (04) and I'm just now getting used to having a diesel---the harder you flog it (within reason ) the better it runs. Gotta build some heat in those cylinders!

Might have the valve lash done just to be safe.

Friday I was able to open 'er up for the first time in a week or so (lousy weather or heavy traffic ). When I got on it in 3rd I got a thick black plume that left a stripe on the road where it blew out of the turndown.
