differant bhaf for differant year trucks???

Hi all wanted to replace stock box and k&n... so printed off Bumpy trucks old smokey copy template read Dan Brooks reply to filter bhaf tread and order his filter.....fg ah19037 checked bumpy's template it calls for a 5 in hole seems larger than filter pull hose off stock box..attach bhaf.. loose fit a differant c lamp may make it tighter but dia seems 1/2 to small then read that the 93 boxes and flters are differant than 92 so is there a differant bhaf for 93 air snorkel [WesternStar dealer only supply... fleetgaurd only choice] thanks Eric

Same snorkel hose for 92, 93's though. They have a 5" clamp. The bhaf is 4" od. You need a smaller clamp. You will never get it tight enough, it will never stay on.. over time it will come loose, trust me. Yes you could wrap some black tape around the neck of the bhaf to increase od, but still gonna work itself loose.

You need the 5" hole because the neck of the new filter has a radius to the flat surface. In other words, it's not a crisp 90* angle where the neck meets the flat surface of the filter. And also, if I'm not mistaken, the ID of the filter is 4", not the OD. So the OD would be something like 4 1/2". The metal ring from the stock housing fits the new filter neck exactly...so it's the same size.

Yep you were mistaken. BHAF neck od is 4". This is how we get 4"exhaust pipe over the neck of the filter used in intake systems. BTDT. The clamp on filter end is 5" BTDT. Also BTDT on filter coming off alot because you can only tighten the bigger clamp so much, then the filter vibrates off, allowing tons of silicone to enter your engine.

Hmmm, well ya still need a smaller clamp if you don't have a mount, and just lay the filter/hose on the fenderliner .

Oh, I don't dispute you need a smaller clamp. Mine's just sort of laying there on the filter until I can get a smaller one. Some vibration and I think it would come off. The original clamp isn't so much of a clamp as it is a collar that won't slide past the metal ring on the stock box. There's a pic in my gallery of this. If I can figure a way to stoutly attach the metal ring to the new BHAF neck, which does slide right on, Then the original clamp will work just fine.

I'm going to a smooth intake tube like WannaDiesel and others have.

Here's an example for ChrisLib

Just about a foot of 4" aluminum intake pipe and two 4" 45* rubber boots with clamps. You could insert a small piece of the 4" pipe into the filter to couple it to the boot. Or just slide the boot over the filter end with a piece of pipe inside the neck to stiffen it up. You can get all the parts for this from http://www.airflo.com/
