I know there was some speculation about the Dana 80 drums working

I saw a post a while back, whether it was here or another forum I do not recall. It was mentioned that dodge sold an outboard hub/drum combo for these. I have never looked into it any further than that.

Sure would be nice.

The advantage is you can change your brake shoes without having to unscrew a single lug nut lol, and you have no excuse not to repack your bearings!

I just came across the info of the 2nd Gen units not having to remove the axles to service their brakes. I did not know about this, so I asked...here was the response.
Since it's a Dana axle why could we not just pull the whole drum assembly and slip it onto our axle?
Might be issues with the size of the axle tube threaded tubes and length, or bearings?

Speaking of which, I get to tear it all apart today as I am going to put new axle/wheel seals in today to fix some minor weeping. Also a great opportunity to examine the rear brakes and change out the diff oil for some fresh 75W-90.

Being a 70 it may be an easy swap. First thing to check would be drum measurements.

Even if you could do this, wouldn't it extend your rear wheel base? In otherwords, wouldnt your rear wheels be sticking way out? Unless you replaced the rear rims with a different offset, but then your fronts would be off. So then you would have to buy 4 new rims and run a spacer up front. Is my logic correct?
