Unhappy Dead starter solenoid

I've got starter troubles. When I turn the key, the relay on the fender clicks but the solenoid on the starter doesn't. I have power to the solenoid when the key is turned (test light lit good and bright), but not even a click from the solenoid. Anybody have a source for just the solenoid? I hate to drop $200 on a starter if I can get a solenoid for it. Good thing I live in hilly country and have a 5 speed, as long as I pick my parking spot well I could go without a starter indefinitely. No gauges this month, though.

I was able to get oversized contacts and a new plunger from a local starter shop for $15.00. Did not have time to order as I needed the truck Right Now.

Folks are right, it was very easy to fix. Bout an hour to from start to finish. Hardest part was finding the right socket after someone else used my tools.

I don't think contacts are the problem, the starter does absolutely nothing - no click from the solenoid, just from the relay on the fender. It seems to be heat related, it fired up fine this morning.

I just went through this. Also heat related. Pulled and cleaned contacts and plunger first. Helped lower the frequency of the "no starts", but they continued. Talked to a local starter guy and he sold me the brushes, contacts and plunger for 80.00 Canadian. Works mint now. BTW there was NO brush left. 270,000 kms.

My solenoid is doing the click no start right now. I'm trying to deal with it till next week. I pull the connector off and make a quick connetion with a 30amp fuse between the contacts on the connector.

Just make sure it's in park..it bypases the neutral safety switch. Caution to manual owners!
