Yes the beam angle does matter, as you can see you need the light to flood the inside of the instrument cluster so you want it to project light 360* as you can see in my instrument cluster.
The pilot indicators for the turn signal, High Beam and any other indicators you might have only need to project light forward

www.superbrightleds.com has so many choices it's difficult to choose.
The 360* options tend to be larger diameter bulbs and I'd like to find some that will fit without modification to the instrument cluster.

I used the same bulbs as Jim Lane except in red. I painted the inside of my gauge cluster with some silver paint I had. dunno if it helped or not, but it made me feel better lol

I used 74-xHP3: Wedge Base LED bulb. The only thing is with the top mounted LED is really bright and creates 2 bright spots on the gauge face. I plan on masking it off or removing it (don't know if it will work removing it)
