Dana 60 & Dana 70 Problems

Well it seems the more i fix in this truck the more things that are bad pop up. I figure eventually i will get it all but right now it is very frustrating. I bought new seals for everything from the front to the back of the truck. I went to replace the front Pinion Seal and when i grabbed the front drive shaft i noticed that the coupler that goes into the transfer case has a huge amount of play when i turn it left to right "Is this just the U joint i have to replace?". I then went to take the u joint off the front differential and the side caps just fell out in my hand "so now i need new u joints" Anyway i continued on to replace the pinion seal and when i grabbed the output of the pinion it also has huge movement in all directions. What does this mean and what do i have to get to fix this?

On a side note i dont know if it is related but yesterday i came to a stop at a stoplight and when i went to go again the truck felt like it has the parking brake on "or something was holding me back" I stepped on the gas and it broke free and seemed okay. Then about 30 minutes later once again i come to a stop and when i go again same thing happens. Any idea what this could be?

Thanks for the help
Chris

Does anybody have a rebuild sheet for the Dana 60 and Dana 70? Since there is not a sticky here on how to rebuild them i figured i would give it a shot. But im going to need the specs.

Thanks
Chris

I think the important thing here is to see if it is the CV joint or the NP205 output shaft that is giving the play.

As for the rest well, when stuff wears out you just gotta replace/rebuild it. How many miles on that rig, anyway?

298,000 miles on it. I dont think the previous owner took very good care of it. Then when i get it i put her to work the day after i got her. Well guess it was coming. Just seems everything happened all at once.

The output shaft on the transfer case also has even more play left to right. Really scary i could only imagine what is happening at high rpms. Weird thing though is there is no noise or shaking so to speak. Well maybe there is and i just think that is normal..haha..

Sounds like pinion bearings are bad and you might need a rebuild on the xfer case.
