D70 outer seals, hard to replace?

My outer seals are leaking and I need to replace them. Is there alot involved in changing them or is it a simple job? What all will I need besides the seals?

Seals are a breeze to get in. Starting them can be a bit hard, but if you use the old seal as a guide, it isnt too bad. Light hammer taps until it starts evenly all around, then little heavier taps. Dont get carried away. Bottom the seal on the ridge in the hub, unless you have a wear line on the spindle, then back it out to just flush with the edge of the hub.

ALso isnt a bad time to pack grease into the bearings, or at the very least, pour some gear oil over the rollers.

you have to take the axles out first, then take off the spindle nut so the entire hub/drum assembly comes off. Thats probably the hardest part, the seals are pretty easy to change.

Is the spindle nut like 2.5" or something like that?

seals are easy, taking the drum off can be a pain if the liners made groves in the drums.

pwrtrpls1- our axles are full floating- the only oil seals are in the hubs. Remove the axle shafts (9/16), then remove the little keeper inside the hub nut (should be there, little wedge shaped thingie). After that, remove the nut. Takes a special socket- standard 2-9/16 wont do it. Flip it over to expose the seal, and pop old out, put new in.

Awesome thanks guys. I just so happen to have 2 new axle sockets laying around. One for a D60 and the other for a D70. lol I guess all I need now is the seals.
