D350 Dually Pulling Truck Suggestions!!!
I Just Got A Reg Cab D350 Dually And I Am Planing On Making It Into A Pulling Truck!!
I Would Very Much Like Some Suggestions On How To Make It A Sled Dragging Machine!!
I Am On A College Kids Budget Too So Any Little Hints Would Be Great!! I Am Not The Most Knowledgeable Person About Diesels But I Know My Way Around Them. But Not Very Familiar About The 1st Gens
Let Me Know Thanks

What class do you want to pull in?
With a college kids budget, I would personally hold off on trying to pull the truck. Things break, especially in these trucks, so expect to put some money away for that.
You might want to think about upgrading the rear to a Dana 80 when the current 70 breaks (as it most likely will.)
Also, being a D350, you have a 2wd truck so you're going to need to convert it to a 4wd.
Is the truck an auto or 5spd? What year?

I'm not real sure on the class yet..most of the pulls we go to have open diesel classes
I was just looking at a diff rear end..a Dana 80 would be best?
how hard is it to convert..what all will i need?
its a 5 spd and a 1993
my family has been in the tractor pulling scene for as long as i can remember and have always been a fan of the truck pulls that's why i am wanting to do this build

Sounds like you need to get a donor , My opinion on the 4x4 conversion is.. it'd be a pain. You'd have to figure a way to get the trans to go to the transfercase, frame provisions, front diff, steering, etc..
I think its easiest to just find a beat up 4x4 diesel donor truck to pull everything out of, Like one that the engine is missing? You know what i mean? People pull the motors and leave the rusty body and rolling chassis (I.E classifieds). That way you don't have to peice EVERYTHING together.
Good luck and it should be fun! Is there any 2wd pulls around you?

I'd just leave it 2wd, It'd be cool seein a 1st gen 2w puller
1st your gonna have to ditch the D70 and go with a D80 or if rules allow a rockwell 106 or the like. I'm not sure how the rag will like pulling with no gear reduction behind it but your gonna want to be in the 15 to 1 crawl ratio range, which would be a 5.13 rear gear and 2nd gear in the tranny
2nd your gonna need, Big sticks, big fuel supply, big clutch, big air supply, big exhaust, and a big hitch. Remember 2wd get 4 more inches of hitch hight too
Good luck

First things first! A new rear diff is a must! A valir or southbend pulling clutch, Sled stops, Ladder Bars (front and rear), Forged U-joints, Posi Rear diff, and Ladder Bars. Get rid of the Getrag you will destroy it if you pull it, youll need a NV4500 swap. This is at the very least! And you really should convert it to 4x4 truck. If you do that you need to install a wieght bracket to hang wieghts on the front end. Also never pull your first gen any were that wont let you hang wieghts first gens are way light and if starts bouncing its going to break. Pulling trucks are very expensive and as stated before your going to break something (nature of the beast) so have some cash saved before you pull. This would be my advice before you start pulling, perform the above mods and then dive into really hopping the engine up, Ie bigger sticks, turbo, and that sort of thing. You can how ever tweek the fuel screw, Denny T pin, 366spring to get ya started. This is just my two cents and im sure there are many more things im forgeting but I hope this helps!
