Custom Dash Pod - project

I spent a few hours today fabing up the beginnings of a custom gauge dash pod. It's a 2 5/8" tach and 6 x 2 1/16" gauges. I call it the Super Dash Pod

preview pics

It will be Tach / Pyro / Boost / Oil Press / Water Temp / Trans Temp and a custom LED gauge.
All Z-series and the Tach is the #2888 alternator deal. Going to order them all this week hopefully. The gauges in the pic are just cheap fuel gauges from the parts cabinet at work for a preview.

Was a little tricky to get the shape of the dash worked out. I have the pieces traced out on poster board for reuse and to get the details back into CAD.

As for attachment, the bottom will be hollow with tabs on the corners underneath. I'm thinking of using rare earth magnets to hold it to the dash. They are real strong. Around the bottom i'll use some kind of rubber seal or very small tubing like window washer tubing.

What do you think so far?

All my factory gauges work. I thought about the dash replacement but I don't want to go through the hassles of a speedo change, etc.

It looks gigantic sitting up there....ok it is...lol....but when your sitting there in the seat it's really not that high up. You can still see the front of the hood at least

Hopefully tomorrow afternoon I can get some sides and a top on it.

Is it going to have an altimeter? Maybe a laser strength guage?

Where's the threat warning light for when the bad guys lock you up with a radar-guided missile?

I think that looks very good, and would really like to see the template if you are willing when you are done! (I figure we could always cut off one end or the other for fewer guages . . .)

I don't think the magnet thing will work out too well though -- there isn't much steel in the dash, and if they are really that strong, they will affect the guages. Just my $.02

Good job so far!!

Here's an update. After a small battle with the back of the tach area It's almost complete. It's to the final sanding stage and looking good

Have a few spots I want to fix up. Other than that it's done.

sweet.... about an hour with a polishing wheel and it will look like a mirror. On second thought maybe you don't want to blind other drivers or call attention to the mothership.
