cummins swap in a 1975 1 ton dodge
I have a 1991 250 4x4 that I crashed but I still drive every day for work, its real ugly but runs like new. The trans is starting to go but I could buy a 1975 4x4 dully with a 400 and a 4 speed. I was wondering if my cummins would bolt up to the 4 speed? Eventualy I would like a 5 speed but for now would this work?

I also know of a 89 250 dodge with 4x4 and a 4 speed manual I, (i think its a np) could I rob most parts off that truck to convert mine to a manual, just like pedals and clutch cylinder and sruff? Is it possible to get a bell housing to go from my humming to that 4 speed? I refuse to put another auto in this truck and it seems hard to find a nv4500

sounds like you need the engine adapter plate from the Cummins block to the bellhousing of the transmission. Seems to me that there arenot a gazilion transmissions you can hook up to the block with an existing engine adapter plate. Check Advanced Adapters. They go for $100.- to $200.- as a used part. A 4-speed in an 89 W250? I'm not familiar with that. Other than that a Getrag G360 would be a good choice - as PapeCAT suggested - if you can't find a NV45

If your old transfercase was from an automatic it will not hook up. It's a 23 spline input (from the tranny) and the NV4500 and the Getrag G360 have a 29 spline output (to the T-case). I think there are adapters around that have seemed to hold up well however... I've even heard of pullers using an adapter that were breaking other parts before the adapter so maybe they are good?

I've never heard of aftermarket adapters from 23 to 29 spline, and I looked for a solution when I converted my transmission. I ended up getting a 29 spline NP205 to bolt up to the NV45. There's a member on this forum who machined a sleeve that is a 23 spline on one end and 29 on the other, but it's not an aftermarket product.
Besides that, the NP 205 will hook up to the NV45 just fine. Master/slave cylinder are a different issue: unless you fab a bit, you'll want to use the pedal assembly off of a 1st gen., but the rod that connects the clutch pedal to the cylinder is too long when using 2nd gen hydraulics. So you might have to cut and rethread to length the rod, or get a new cylinder for 1st gen from your parts store (about $105.-) and make it fit.
Another thing you'll need is a bracket from Advance Adapters that will position and operate the transfer case shifter/linkage with the NV45.
