This is what I started with this morning....

Didn't take long to end up with the HB unit mounted to the firewall.

Here is pretty much everything else in the system. New PS Pump for a 2000 Cummins. Good used high pressure lines and new 3/8 PS hose and clamps, brackets etc.

Now the fun began....

I like to just pull the vacuum/PS assembly out to work on it, or if I'm doing an injection pump re/re. Only takes about 10 min to pop it out, and you will never accidentally break off your oil pressure sending unit either.

Little bit of work to put the new PS pump on. You have to swap the 4 mounting studs on the front, I just used two of the 15mm bolts tightened/locked together to spin them out and move them over.

Then swap the 2 - 18mm bolts in the back of the case over to the new unit.

Now just remount the PS pump onto the Vacuum pump...don't forget the two spacers...and re-install on the motor.

Put the MC in place...

And discovered that the bracket for the metering block fit perfectly...not modifications required (unlike the GM unit). Only had to drill one new hole to clear the adapter plate mounting bolt.

Got to this point and then was informed by my family that my presence was required to go watch a movie at the theater.....

About 4 hours later I was back at it...

I had to put in new brake lines from the MC to the metering block, since the MC runs metric fittings, and the old lines would not fit regardless. I am no tube bender....I hacked those things into place...ugly as sin, but they function fine.

Then install the OEM lines...

Then install the High pressure lines, and return lines.

The steering box was the toughest. due to the OEM bends in the line it was a tough fit to clear the return line. But after removing the inner splash shield I was able to get it all lined up.

Then it was follow the priming/starting instructions from the rebuild thread posted earlier.

Took the crewcab for a short drive...since it was getting late....and the brakes feel so much better!

Dude, you are a " Step by Step, How to do this..." Stud! Even showing your mistakes and what could happen! Just reading thru this made me feel the pains of driving around and going here and there, trying to round up parts! This is good, as now if I choose to do this I can round everything up and set aside a day to do it. If you knew all the mistakes previous, or better asked, knowing what you know now, and did it again, about how long would you set aside to do this swap, from popping up the hood 1st thing to hopping in your truck for the test drive? So, is the new braking power substantial? Seems most others that did this seem to say that you will loose your teeth on the windshield if you didn't buckle up. Is it really that noticeable?

Looks good cows! Did you just use the factory lines from a 2nd gen truck then?

If you have everything ready to go....it's very doable in about 8-10 hours. I popped the hood about 8:30am....worked to 11:30, had lunch...went to movie, got home about 3:30 and started working on it about 4pm. Finished, running/driving and done by about 8pm. Maybe quicker next time after learning a few things from my mistakes.

The braking is amazing now....like a well set-up manual disc brake set-up....not spongy at all! I never went through the windshield, but it definitely grabs quicker then before, and you don't have to use as much pedal. I am very impressed with it so far...no regrets.

Thank you! Yes I used all OEM lines from the 97-2002 2nd Gen trucks.

Driving around in the crew today and I'm loving the braking! And I think my PS is working better then ever, wheel and tires turn effortlessly now and is smooth as silk, and I swear my idle is up a bit. I think the old PS pump was slowly dying and putting drag on the motor.

Sweet looking job and I am glad you like the results.
I may have to try this "hydroboost" on a 1st gen, stuff.

Just noticed the last pic as I was reading follow up posts from others. For all you've done, and having mechanicals skill sets to do those things, I can't believe you haven't swapped out that OEM steering shaft for a Borgeson or another aftermarket type. You probably already have that planned, though

I rebuilt it, and it's pretty good. I also added a grease nipple so I can keep pumping it full of fresh, uncontaminated by water, grease.

I will replace it when I get to the RR steering set-up.

Forgot to update this thread. Here's my posts from earlier this week.

I have made that turn 100's of times with no problem, only thing different is the hydroboost upgrade, and a new PS pump.

I was only a minute from home so made it here and when I parked the wheels would barely turn...like the PS pump is not getting enough fluid pressure. I looked into the reservoir while running and it kind of looked like it might have a little air in the system. Going to let it sit for an hour or so and then go check it again.

The fluid level in the reservoir was fine...been checking it every day since the upgrade. So not sure how it would have sucked air into the system? Or am I looking at bigger problems?

But I'm afraid that the new higher pressure PS pump blew out an internal seal or two in my PS box?

I went out a few minutes ago and checked the fluid...looked fine. Fired the truck up and the wheels turned OK...not as easy as they did earlier though. Then went for a drive...as the fluid heated up the steering got worse. When I got back and parked the truck it would not turn the wheels at idle. If I rev it up over 1500 Rpm then it will turn OK...but again not as easy as before.

Also now when I pop the cap off the PS pump when the trucks running, there is a slight whine coming from the PS Pump.

Going to go out a swap the old PS pump back on and see what happens.
