Cooling fan lost a blade! Is there a better one available?

Was doing an oil change today and found on of the blades of my cooling fan sitting on the frame rail. I had been hearing a knocking sound the last few days and had thought it was my flexplate again but now I think it was the fan I was hearing. Fortunatly it didn't damage the rad much, I can see where it skimmed it but fortunatly no tube damage or leaks.

So is this common? Is there a better fan available or just replace with stock? New/used? Cummins direct or Dodge dealership? Thanks!

You are lucky. Mine exploded by loosing two blades, causing the shroud to explode and the blades damaged the hood to the tune of about $500+ in body work. Total damage for me was $700.00

I just put a stock fan back on.

Someone said something this past week about a factory fan upgrade. Don't remember who or why but I do remember it being mentioned. Man I hate CRS.

[b]Upgraded OEM Fan and Fan Clutch
Dodge has issued an updated Fan which has more twist on the blades and is lighter. If you plan on upgrading your fan clutch, I strongly suggest you also upgrade to this new fan. Again, this is an OEM component from MOPAR.

Fan- 52026653
Clutch module- 52028760

According to https://www.dodgeparts.com/oe_parts_catalog.html it's a good number as in the tech facts. That number came from member 'paccool' IIRC. He bought both. It comes up as a module for 98 12V's. I would say thats an upgrade. Although I'm not sure if it would work for the early non-intercooled trucks.

I will have to dubble check it monday, but when i was looking at these numbers a fue month ago, the parts manager said that the 52028760 was a invalid # when i told him that it was for a newer 12 valve he check(don"t now what year he chose) but, the fan was the same # and the clutch was an52026760

as far as the non intercooled and intercooled go, you maybe right, that this up date won't work cus the radiaters are diff....and fan shrouds?

Yep fan shrouds are very different. Both are NLA from the dealer too . I wonder if you got a fan clutch that was originally for YOUR model year truck, not the updated clutch. Either way, whenever anyone calls the dealer, ask for both numbers, don't tell em what it's for.

I just checked an old receipt. I bought a fan clutch for my 89. It was part number 52006096. Got it 2-28-03. That number could've been updated too. Fan shroud was available back then, 4428173.

WOW! Thanks guys! I love the forum! I'll take those numbers into my local dealership and see what they say.

Just to clarify, is this actually the part number for a 2nd gen truck? I'm in Canada and sometimes they have problems with the US part numbers and need to cross reference with a year/model.
