Coolant Gauge Sender Location
My stock coolant temp gauge shows that my truck is getting hot when pulling heavy. I would like to know exactly what it's doing so I bought an aftermarket temp. gauge. The only problem is, I don't see any ports to put the sender in.
Where should I install the sender? I kinda want to leave the stock gauge hooked up.

Mine will get warm pulling a hill. Never got to the hot line but will get to the line just right of center on the gauge. If you are running a lot of timing that could cause a motor temp issue too. My understanding is the heat gets held in the motor longer before exiting out the exhaust.

You probably would be better off reading coolant temps from the back of the head. Cylinders #5 and #6 get the hottest being the furthest away from the water pump. Thus, less flow/circulation of coolant.
