converting out 22 gal fuel tank
Hey guys&gals I have a 93 dually, extra cab, long box with the 22 gal fuel tank.I see that some of these trucks came with a 30 gallon tank.I was wondering if anybody here has swapped out the lil one for the biggin? do ya use the same tank traps?is the tank just abit longer?
Would just prefer to bump up my fuel capacity this way instead of an auxilry tank in the bed,or maybe I do the 30 gallon and then do a 20 in the bed on a gravity feed set up??

I haven't heard about the 22 vs 30 gallon tanks, would like to hear more about that.
What I can add is the 30 gallon RamCharger tank which can be mounted behind the rear axle in the spare tire location. A bit of body work to get the filler neck installed into the bed side but it's a really clean way to add a bunch of extra capacity.
There were a couple threads discussing this maybe 2 or so years ago...I'm going to go search.

Righton,ya I did a bunch of searching on this. Not alot of info.I found some info a guy was saying that this was an option for 4:10 gears?? he claims 4:10 geared trucks got the 30 gallon tank and other ratios got the 22 gal...idunno.
But I do know I found a guy with a 90 CTD SRW stnd cab 5 speed with 4:10 gears and he says his truck has the 30 gallon tank...it was raining I didnt want to lay in the mud and look under his truck to get a visaul comparison...
I found a 30 gallon out of a 92 CTD at a wreckin yard online for $67.00 thinkin about buying it and do what a guys gotta do to make it fit in there??

Get under your truck and look for the '30' stamped on the underside of the fuel tank before you do anything. You will find it is a 30 gallon tank. It was standard for diesel pickups.

No B.S. I just found another CTd another 90 srw 2wd 5 speed and I crawled under his rig.The front of the tank is 16" in front of the front strap. The rear of the tank sure looks alot! close to the rear end than my tank! it measures 16" of tank sticking out past the rear strap.he said his tank is indeed a 30 gallon tank!
My truck isnt near me at the momment so I cant measure how much tank I got poking out past the tank straps...maybe somone could do that and chime in??

The best way to get more Cap is pull the filler neck out and cut about 3 to 5 inches off of it then slide it back in you will notice that that think goes away's into the tank and doesn't need to

Sure appreciate the "real" information i tend to get around here!!
I crawled under the truck and YES indeed it has a 30 gallon stamp on it.So I assume when My gauge is reading E I still got a bunch of fuel in it?
I swear the tank fills identical to my gasser truck wich has the 22 gal tank.Clicks off right at the same amount and reads full...but yet it has a 8 gallon more capacity???
