converting to dually

How feasable is it to turn my 250 srw to a dually? i would still want to leave it a 250 though. just at glance it looks as if the axle may be the same, perhapse the dually wheels would bolt right on, pop some fenders on, chang the front rotors to the dually style and bam!!! has anyone ever done this? I really dont need the duals but i love the look and also i want to do a 22.5 inch wheel conversion) i think its 22.5 or 22.

it has been done before, definitely. the dually beds are different, a different cut around the wheel well... but there is an aftermarket manufacturer for dually conversions. they make a dually fender to fit our srw beds.... you will also need to figure out if you want to go real dually or just use spacers. I think it would require a dually axle because of width? You can find a dually dana 70 hd under older late 70's/early 80's motorhomes with low low miles and in good condition because that gasser 318 or 360 don't have enough power to hurtn em anyway. other than that the front rotors can be replaced with dually ones, and you might want to get the 9/16th wheel studs and ditch the 1/2 inchers
I have seen many motorhomes, like the itasca chevy ones, gassers with 19.5 inch accuride dually wheels you could source for cheep before you plunk down major coin for those 22.5 alcoas

True Dually axles ARE different from the SRW version. They are wider. However, you can use spacers instead of replacing the whole axle. They are available from; www.arrowcraft.com . They sell whole kits, or just the parts you need. Decent people to deal with too.

If you try to put dually wheels/tires on a SRW axle, the tires will hit the spring pack.

I did the arrowcraft conversion on two first gen 250's back quite a few years ago. It is the easiest route, and the adapters are plenty strong. I sold both of those trucks many years back and they are both still out there working real hard with no problems. There are ways to cut corners but it is the easiest to just buy the whole kit from arrowcraft, spacers, wheels, fenders and all. You don't have to change the front rotors either, they have adapters for those too. Back when i did mine the whole kit was around $1200-1300 if memory serves, but that was like ten years ago, so I'm sure it is more now.
