Conversion has begun, Have Questions

Alright I started with a 77 Ford F350 Crew cab short box, and a 93 Dodge W300 4X4, Dually, Cummins, 5speed. I started by ttaking the body off the Dodge.

Ran into a few problems, clutch slave cylinder was messed up, so now i need to figure out a clutch to match the two trucks, Ford was a 4 speed.

Also need to figure out Alt, INtercooler fitment, and Body fitment.

Other than that I think I am good.

Im guessing, You want to put the 77 Ford 4 Door on the Dodge drive train?.
I havent done that conversion put there have been a few in here that have. HMM, I think one guy is in here as "59 Ford" cant remember, He lives in Tennessee. We need to rattle some guys in here that have done this conversion.

BigBully and Bearkiller also have Fords with real engines.

If you are planning to use the Ford 4 speed, I dont believe it will work. Something rings a bell about the bell not being deep enough. fordcummins.com lists the info about the t18/19 and np435 combo's

What year engine is that? 94 or 95?

I don't know anything about the conversion, I just noticed the P-Pump and WH1C.

1993 engine. Is there somthing different about it?

If you are planning to use the Ford 4 speed, I dont believe it will work
I am going to use the dodge 5 speed.

Yes this is what I will be doing.

I am taking the body off the ford, and will put it on the rolling cummins plant.

Like my old ford trucks, but need somthing to pull the Jeep and Wifes Powerwagon.

I will have more pictures today after I take the Ford apart.

It's in a '93, but that's not a '93 engine.

I was told that is the original engine.

So what Engine do I have?

I can take more pics and get numbers off the engine if need be. This is my first cummins(sold my 97 Stroke to build this truck).

That is an early 2nd gen motor. Look at the data plate on the timing case near the injection pump for the CPL and we can tell you where it came from.

Did I read right, you are putting the Ford cab on the Dodge frame??

I dropped the Cummins into the Ford truck.

For help with all the nit-picking little things that pop up, I suggest spending some time at this site, as many there have done found solutions to the problems.

Bearkiller, I am putting it on the frame, for the 4 wheel drive and because my frame was hit in the front prior to me owning it(wierd steering issues).

Thanks for the link, I will have to get friendly over there to.


So, since I have the newwerish Cummins, is this a good or bad thing?

Also is there a way to tell if anyone has messed with the pump or gov? Like a starting basis(turn this screw in till tight and back out X turns?

i do believe the P-pump in your pics is the most desireable of the CTD injection pumps.

i've read of it being referred to as a "million mile pump" also i do believe the most power can be squeezed out of it. i think it is lubricated by engine oil, so hot fuel and or bad fuel will not be quite as bad for it. this is just what i've read from these forums. someone please correct me if im wrong.

Definitely a good thing. It's a lot easier to get big power out of a P-pump. You're going to want to get friendly with the boys in the 2nd gen forum for any injection pump issues, some of us here on the 1st gen board have experience with the P-pump, but there is a bigger pool of knowledge over there. Otherwise the engines are the same.

The AFC cover (the part on top of the pump behind all the lines) has break-off bolts, if somebody's been in there they will have a torx shape mashed into them, a slot cut across them, or been replaced with allen head bolts (the best option). There's a governor access port on the side of the pump, it will have safety wire across it if nobody's been in there.

Better nip that killer dowl pin while you have no front clip on the frame. Do a little search on it, there's a little alignment pin that has a nasty habit of falling out into the gears making a pretty decent mess. Especially on 94-98 p-pumped engines.
