Cold(ish) start (vid)
It still amamzes me how quickly first gens light off...even when it's cold. I was about 34 degrees when I took this, not too cold, but the ol gal still sounds tight for creeping up on a half mill You can hear pretty good what advancing the pump a tooth AND pushing the pump to the head sounds like when I goose it. It's definitely on the ragged edge and I think I saw some weeping around the HG yesterday oh well, it's only money Anyway, just thought I'd share the sweet sound of my old rig---sorry you can't see anything--it was early and my camera is cheap--didn't even pick up much whistle

Still sounds pretty good, you can hear that its pretty advanced. You have to love the cold start ability of these old trucks, they'll start up when the others barely turn over.

Beautiful! Mine sat in front of my house for a month waiting for the new trans. My buddy (who has had a 99 and now and 06 CTD) said "we're going to have the prime the heck outta this thing." I told him no, I wanna see how it starts after sitting for a month. Sure enough, first crank it fired right up! I think the cold did some seal shrinkage though, the good old VE pump and the radiator leaked for 5 mins then stopped!
Your truck sounds good with the pump advanced that far. Sounds like a VP44 equiped 24 valve .

Yeah, no doubt , but I'm not sure if it's oil creeping around the corner from the lifter cover or what. So far it's not using any coolant or oil, so I could be in the clear. If it is weeping from the HG I'm gonna take advantage of the chance to have the head cleaned up a bit and toss some studs in there---merry early christmas to me

We'll have to clean out the little barn and park her in there Greg and do some head studdage this winter.

I had my camera on a tripod that sits about 3' off the ground. It was just ahead of the passenger side tire, looking up at the stack---the rattle would've been much louder if I recorded from the front, I think. I'm beginning to realize that my overall tune on the truck is very misguided I should start another thread on this, but here's what I'm looking at: with my timing where it's at, there's definitely a loss in low end power...it doesn't really start to pull untill about 2100, and by 2500 the stock lift pump has just about all it can do to keep up and it's game over. The 12cm housing really shines from 1600-2100, but I generally don't pour the coals on that low due to HG concerns, and by the time she's making some good horsepower (over 2000), the 12cm is against the wastegate and beginning to become a restriction. I can set the wastegate anywhere from 10-30psi and still hit 35psi, even with the gate wired open Soo, I could do the smart thing and pull the timing back and have my torque monster back and have a useless 40psi boost gauge 'cause it's already pegged...or, I can find an 18.5cm housing for cheap (I was dumb enough to sell mine )and finally get off my butt and hook up an aux fuel supply system and really start enjoying life over 2100

Haha, you soo funny! (BTW, your '93 has an 18.5 )I do however have an 18.5 en-route, so if you're wanting to try the 12 out for a while, we can arrange that
