Clunking in my shifting

I posted here a while ago about a clunk in my shifting of my automatic transmission. Someone told me that it was more likely my u-joints. I grabbed and shook the drive train to see if there was any play and only got a slight shimmy from my front drive train that only gets used in 4 wheel drive.

The problem is that as the automatic transmission shifts from 2nd to 3rd there is a big clunk. Also happens when I put the truck into reverse.
I also have a slight squeaking going on somewhere that disappears when I take my foot off the gas.

Any comments out there? Is it my transmission or my u-joints? Thanks!

That's why you didn't find any slack. Chock the wheels or set the parking brake and put it in neutral and tray again...

if you have an LS rear end you will get a little clunk in the rear end when going into reverse at least. My dually does. its the gears engaging the other way. my clutch SEEMS to have plenty of life left but it still clunks. I think someone said less than 1/8 of a turn is ok?

By the way, what kind of auto tranny do you have? 727 3 speed or 518 3spd w/ Overdrive (or just a 4 speed you can call it)? Thanks guys,

I'm out of town until the end of November but will be putting all my efforts into figuring this out. I appreciate all your responses and I'll figure out my signature soon. Thanks again!
