Cleanliness, Cleanliness, Cleanliness
The three rules when working with close tolerance machinery. I just finished pulling the top off my VE pump to see what was amiss with the AFC. DIRT! I'm mad at myself for letting it get that way and for pure ignorance for not foeseeing what a little grit in the wrong place can do. The small pin that rides on the fuel pin inside the injector puimp has by necessity a very close assembly fit. I thought I was doing right by blasting lubricant in under the diaphram. That little blast of lube carried small pieces of foriegn material into the bore where the pin rides and stopped its movement. The problem is fixed for now and I took time to radius the end of the pin that rides on the AFC pin to prevent the gouging that was going on. And this was the first time that I put the pump together only once.
