charging system and other stuff

Well, I had a pretty good day yesterday. Its hard to get much done on the truck during the week working six tens and getting home after dark but I spent all day cleaning and working on the it. My charging system was still not working and I needed the number off the alternator so my wife could pick up the brushes and C C Battery in Corpus Christi. Thought while I had it off I would take a peak at the brushes and see what it will take to change them. They are wore to about 1/4 inch. I cleaned everything up, put it back together and now its charging! 14.2V and the regulator I put on to bypass the pcm is working great. I still am pretty sure it is the brushes so I will change them this weekend.
Also adjusted the rear breaks and they seem somewhat better. I have 285/75 tires on it and being a 4x4 I'm sure they will seem kinda spongy.
Spit shined under the hood and the whole truck (yea it rained today) and just getting more familiar with it.
The rear diff has a little tag that has 3.51 and a bunch of other numbers on it. Is that the gear ratio?
I still have a few more minor bugs to work out, power window problems, new exhaust pyrometer, tach and would like to upgrade the injectors. I put on a boost guage a while back and am getting 23 psi boost pressure right now.
The truck might be 12 yrs old but I don't think I would get any more compliments on it if it was brand new. (Take a look at my pic). And its paid for!!

Thats a gorgeous truck!

I guess welcome to the world of 1st gens and their wonderful wiring issues...

As for the rear end tag...it probably says "3.54".
If you need any power window parts, let me know. I've got a pair of doors that are messed up but have all the glass, trim, lock & window mechanisms.

I'l be in Corpus Christi from Dec 19-Jan?? Since I'm originally from there.

Nice truck! I love 2 tone 1st gens - the only thing that could make yours look better is a set of training wheels. Like Jeremy said, the tag is saying you have a 3.54 rear. Does it have the letters "LS" on it anywhere? If so you hit the jackpot and got a posi.

Good for you!

If the truck has a lot of slack in the driveline that's not from U-joints, you might want to open up the rear end and look at the guts in the posi. What I found in mine is in my photo gallery.

You found all them guns in there?? Just kidding. Mine has a little slack somewhere. The only time I notice it is when I take off from a stop, it feels like a little slack in something. My u-joints look fine. I think I will look at it closer this weekend. I bought the truck last July in Palmyra Va. The guy that had it said he had just replaced the rear-end in it.
Also, if I hook up with TexasHardcore on the power windows, I could use any tips on changing out that assy.

The trim level has nothing to do with it. If the axle tag says "LS" it has a posi rear. The Dana trade name for posi/suregrip is Pow-r Lok. "LS" stands for "limited slip".

yea, when you first said LS I thought " My truck has that on the cab." Went looked and that is LE on the cab. LS is on the diff. tag.
