Changin shift forks

How hard is it to change a shift fork in the getrag? Called the local tranny shop and they said it was better to just get a reman top cover.

What do yall think?

You can change them out fairly easily. You have to remove the plugs in the end of the shifter cover. There are some roll pins to remove too, and the detent ball will fly out if your not careful. It is possible that there are several worn pieces in the shifter cover. You may want to check everything over for play and/or slop. A worn out shifter cover can make the trans shift like crap.

I had one of this fly and hit Me right in the eyeball, damm|t that hurt.

There is also a piece (can't remember what is called) with a spring inside it that the shifter will push and select which fork to move, this can wear too so You want to look at this and see if it need replacing. When You are done ordering parts for shifter cover You might as well get a new one, when I called the shop I get the parts from they had parts but all used, although they do sell new shifter covers.
