cannot find tach wire
My truck is a 91.5 Should I have the factory tach plug under the dash? I looked at the sticky and looked at my truck but I cannot find it. The only loose plug in the area of where the sticky says is only a three pole plug.

My 91.5 does not even have the pick-up sensor on the front of the engine. The Tach wiring may have started on the 92s.
There is a way to hook up a tach pick-up on the alternator.

Yea my 93 has the tach hookup. im pretty sure weve all agreed that 91.5 did not have it. i dont think 91.5 has a crankshaft sensor on the front either like a 92 and 93 because it doesnt have a PCM controlled engine.........
so the aftermarket tachs usualy get hooked up to the alternator.

IssPro also has a tach kit that involves gluing 2 magnets on the crank pulley, then using their pickup you get pulses to feed their tach...
It puts out a healthy spike so it might work IF the tach is not a gasser tach -
The ignition coil puts out more of a spike.

I installed an Autometer tach on my 92. It has the plug in harness under the dash, but I did not feel like playing around with it at the time. So I bought a tach that had a small sensor type thing that you clamped to the side of the alternator, and i've had great results with it. A year ago I bought it for around a $120, but with inflation and such, it is hard to tell what it would cost today!
