Can a faulty Fuel Heater Gasket Suck Air and Not Leak Diesel?

Just as the title says - can a bad heater seal suck air without leaking diesel. I had read while searching with that being the highest point of the fuel supply an air bubble could form causing it to not leak fuel but still suck air. It just seems to me that with the piston LP I should be seeing some fuel around it if the seal was bad.

Thanks!

I think it could but might not be likely. I am not the expert others who know better will chime in.

Thanks guys, I'm changing it this afternoon and hope it solves my loss of power and poor FP under load. I took the pump off two week ago and had it bench tested and it passed with flying colors, so I will be happy to get it fixed, but disappointed I pooped $$ away on the IP when it could be this 2 dollar seal all along.
