Called EEP today, does this sound right?
In my search for a 4" DP I gave Enterprise Engine Performance a call today, and was just having a general truck BS session with the guy there, and he was telling me that the VE pump will not put out much power, and was telling me to switch over to a P pump (not a bad idea, Id like to anyhow) And to rebuild a VE is around the......1200 dollar mark????
That absolutly blows me away considering the rotary pump on my 7.3 is only 400 to rebuild, and I can pick up a "modified" one for the 7.3 for right around 400!
I was a little surprised by him say'n the VE isnt too good for power, after all I have read on here which really contridicts him!
I understand if I was lookin for 500 HP and 1000FT LB of torque, but I told him the cummins is just a back-up vehicle, and towing rig.
What do ya'll think??

It's pretty easy to get 300 reliable HP out of a VE. Unless your goals are higher than that, there's really no reason to P-pump it. For max HP, there's no doubt that the P-pump is the simple reliable way to do it.

JR, I got my reman from Dick Laing for about 900. The good folks at EE have a different idea of big power than most normal people---I'd be willing to bet some of those guys have lawnmowers with 300 horsepower You'll be able to coax enough fuel out of your pump to break things downstream of the flywheel without much trouble Coming up your hill the other day, I laid into her pretty good when I hit 4th and it only took one good bump for the rearend to break loose and send me sideways. For some reason, these old trucks shy away from the big HP numbers (for the most part) but make up for it in neck-snapping, fun-as-heck around town torque. The ol 'rag doesn't shift too quick, but soon enough you'll be trolling for BMW's and the like thinking to your self ''just catch me at the bottom of 4th gear and see what happens ''

Reman from www.scheiddiesel.com is ~$695. Brand new VE's from www.piersdiesel.com are ~$1395 IIRC.

I've talked to Dave Mitchell and the Bunch several times at pulls, and when you start talking adding HP he's thinking 200+ HP over stock, not just 50 or so. You can tell this by looking at his pulling truck.
He is a really good guy to work with, just likes to make mega HP's in every diesel he works on.

Let me tell you about EEP, I've taking that long drive to tornville Ohio, its right in the middle of a big corn field. They don't know much about Ve's and most things there are over priced. They get all there pumps and injectors from Colubus Diesel in Ohio. Not in house like u would think They know a p pump from frount to back. Always ask for Doug he the parts man and a good guy to talk to when making HP.

tell that to kta, stomp, and bgilbert. i reckon they'll tell you otherwise. they'll prolly even tell the guys at EEP about it. if they were asked nice.
i certainly wouldn't spend the money to convert if i was just driving the truck. but that's just me.

Yeah, that was my background pic on the other computer! It was Doug I was talkin to.
Well after my encounter with a 80's 4x4 chevy dually on the highway today, Im ready for my power enhancements! Next weekend begins the stack project, I ordered the 4" DP from Rip, perhaps the BHAF next weekend as well. But I need to get a hitch on the truck more importantly, so maybe the BHAF will have to wait for another week, I'll need the left over 4" pipe to fabricate that.
I wasent going to "dump" money into this yet, but im loving this thing soo much...........
