Ryan,
Check to see that all fluids look good and are at proper level.
Check steering box mounting area for cracks or loose bolts. Same for steering linkages.
Check brake operation and make sure it will stop safely.
See how much pedal is required to get it moving since it is an auto. Sloppy torque convertor &/or valve body misadjustments will make it seem sluggish.
Check lug bolts, spring mounts, shocks, u-joints, driveshafts and yokes, t-case, tranny, engine for loose bolts that could leave you stranded.
Check overall for leaks. Places of concern for that year truck are under #1 cylinder head gasket leak (behind alternator and water outlet housing), timing cover/ front main seal, rear main seal (and cam plug also in that area), power steering pump.
But, if it is a one owner and the owner is 85, I'd come near betting it's in good shape. It may need some injector & pump work if it has had an easy life, but that is simply a good excuse to BOMB. I've also seen pumps with 500K going strong and never skip a beat. Its all in fuel quality and usage.

bomb ? that is an acronym for: ? .... i know it means to maximize proformance.
i have read on hear that the tps causes greif with od shifts ... seems to me that when i get to 100km/hr i have to let off the fuel to get it to up shift in to od is this normal? there is no actual hunting that i can tell and it doesn't just drop out of od, or is that what is ment by hunting? i went down to the dealer to gat a build sheet for my truck, but it only tells me what i already knew as far as gear ratio and axle type. what i wanted to know is did my truck come with a power lock in the d70 3.55? thanks again

IIRC bomb = Better Off Modified Baby!!!!!!
Also, like someone else said make sure she shifts into OD and does not intermittently drop out of OD. I had a 93 with an auto with 4:10 gears and when she dropped out of OD @ 60 MPH it was like someone through out an anchor.
