Broken Spacer in VE pump. Replacement needed

Hi All,

I broke the spacer between the cam plate and the hydraulic head. It broke the cam plate as well. No problem, that's easy to find. I cannot source this little spacer though. It's #52 on the exploded diagram. Anyone know where I could find one?

Thanks!

Have you checked with a diesel shop in your area. Most any urban area has a shop or two that rebuild injectors and pumps.

You do a reseal on your pump...then forgot to put a big dollop of grease to hold that thrust washer in place during assembly? Been there, done that. I ended up buying a whole used pump to rebuild. Since everything I found said that these two parts are set up to work together.

I went to my local diesel shop and they asked what clearances I needed. And they were the ones to inform me, as well, that those thrust washers are particular to each individual pump. Since there are dozens of thicknesses, and particular to the casting, and clearances in the pump as it's being built, the thrust washer thickness is calculated then.

After understanding this I decided it was better to have a "matched" set-up in another pump, then run the risk of other issues arising from incorrect clearances and such.

Good tips! I found a local shop that can supply the part. The new cam plate is on it's way, I will baseline the old cam lobe to old spacer height of the exiting parts, and compare it to the NEW cam lobe to old spacer height. From there I should be able to tell what the new spacer needs to be thickness wise.
