Brakes

Well today we had the truck up an stands trying to fine a noise. we started it and put it in drive to see if we could hear it. well when we went to stop, we hit the brakes to put it back in park and found out for some reason the rear brakes didn't work at all. I haven't noticed a loss of braking power since I got the truck, so we guess they never worked. Next weekend we are gonna tear down the whole rear braking system and try to fix it. Has anyone had this happen to them? I think the rear end is a Dana 60 or 70. Im pricing the disk conversion kit but its kinda up there. we started to just tear them apart tonight just to look but you have he remove the whole axle, and we didnt have the parts ro the time to do that. If i go back stock, I will be upgrading to the 1ton brakes. What are yall opinions?
