Brake Light Switch Fix!

So I have been battling with my brake lights coming on when they're not supposed to. After reading a bit on here, I found that its a common problem. I figured that buying a new one wouldn't solve anything since the design itself is very poor. Here's what I did.

The diameter of the "threads" on the switch is about 1/2" And the "threads" are pretty darn close to a 1/2"-20 thread. I filed off the strip that goes in the slot of the mount and ran a 1/2-20 die over the "threads". Then I put it back on the mount and used a couple thin nuts to hold it on. Very simple and its been like that for a couple months. No more reaching under the dash and pushing the darn thing back in every so often. Just thought I would share that, in case some of you were fighting with it like I was.

thanks for this tip. I'm thinking if i can just repair my brake light switch rather than replace it.All I need was to get the correct replacement switch then the harness plugs directly into the switch. I also need to get the correct brake to switch distance, so that the brake leg just makes contact to turn off the lights when my foot is not on the brake.

Good news you've already fixed it. Currently having the same thing. One night came home and turned off my car and the brake lights wouldnt turn off. I Checked the brake light switch and it was totally broken. I fooled around with it and the brake lights wouldnt come on now. I have replaced my brake light switch and The brake lights still wont come on. Also check fuses and bulbs. Had disconnected the battery and the brake light switch but the problem is still there. What would i do. This issue is killing me as of the moment. I need to fix this car and let it run again the thing is that i have no idea what to do at this time.
