Boost elbow/ Wastegate ??

When I put the 12cmWG on my H1C I noticed the actuator rod had just a few threads sticking out of it. It coming from a fellow hot rodder I figured it had been turned up. Anyways after getting it on I was only seeing 25psig boost under heavy throttle/load conditions. So I unhooked the pressure line to it and now have like 45 psig when I mash it. I got the housing off from a used up WH1C. There was no boost elbow on the compressor housing or tapped hole for that matter. So I drilled and tapped 1/8NPT in mine, and put in a regular 90* 1/8NPT x 1/4 hose barb fitting. I really don't understand what a boost elbow does, but I am guessing it has an orffice in it? It builds boost way faster now too, it hits 25 like its nothing. So I am thinking that with the regualr fitting it is opening the WG sooner than I like. So do I need a boost elbow or to adjust the WG rod? There is only like 6-8 threads exposed. If anyone wants to school me on a boost elbow feel free.
Thanks

Sounds like your housing was set at stock or just a hair higher than stock.

A boost elbow slows the rate at which the boost gets to the wastegate, allowing the gate to stay shut longer, giving you more boost. Having never hooked up a wastegate, I cant say which I prefer, but I'd think manually adjusting the wastegate rod would give better results if you stay in the pedal for extended periods of time.

25psi is about right in terms of the efficiency map of the H1C. Mush higher boost than that, and you will only add hot air, and eventually damage your turbo.

Boost elbows should be called spike elbows. They are just a small leak that delays wastegate opening, but once the system stabilizes they allow the wastegate to reduce boost down to nearly stock levels. So you get a spike but then the boost falls off. You need a manual boost controller, there a loads of them on Ebay. They use a check ball and spring to keep boost out of the actuator until your preset pressure is reached, then the actuator sees boost and opens the wastegate. Good ones use a very small bleed after the check ball to make sure the wastegate doesn't get stuck open by trapped pressure.

So the elbow/ fitting I have now isn't affecting boost until the WG opens? It seems to build alot faster now. Or will turning up the actuator help. I assume the boost controller will help that too.

If the actuator isn't staked you can turn it up that way.
