blew up my beast
My pyrometer has not been functioning the last few days, and last night I got into the skinny pedal a little too much, it shut down going down the highway, I pulled over to check it out and my turbo housing was glowing cherry red ,I waited a few hours to let it cool off and fired up but has a terrible knock, not a ting ting knock but sounds like a hammer, what could it be and what should I do?
all help is greatly appreciated
many thanks again

Oooh, not good. Mussn't run w/o gauges (see my sig... ) Maybe you melted a piston and it's slapping around in there? Won't take much to pull the head and look. Oil in coolant? Coolant in oil? Start checking the basics is what I'd do.

this is what happens when temps get to hot, my piston melted too, also warped the valves and pushed molten piston through the turbo, sorry to hear it man, i know exactly how you feel, unfortunatley i was 2 hours from home and the truck wouldn't start. good time to do some big uprades, or a p-pumped motor like me

Theres another thread floating around about this where others seem to think its OK to temp temperature fate. If you can remember and you dont mind telling us, what temps. had you seen before these meltdowns and symptoms of meltdown, have occured. I know you said, you were into the skinny pedal to much, but were you towing or nailing the pedal and held it there to long?? Did the temperature gauge show it was running hot?? Also, any others, that actually have had meltdown, plz chime in for the benifit of all. Srry to hear of your troubles. 65 Fury, that piston looked liked an aluminum can tossed into a fire. It made me kringe.
Rather than a rebuild, in a case like this it almost seems like its more cost effective to get another low mileage motor and install it, along with a Very good Pyro.

I think he said his pyro was in-op.
This is a perfect time for a rebuild using high performance/ marine components. Build up to 600RWHP . I even know where you could get some marine injectors. PM for details.

POST A WARNING NEXT TIME WOULD YA!!! Jez, that made me cringe. Id vote along with the rest, either a melt down, or (and I havent seen the bottom end of a cummins) but I know on my past gassers, hammering from inside the block was a spun bearing, making the rod hit the cylinder wall.

seems that pulling injectors and inspecting tips for silver specs (melted aluminum) would tell you which cylinder is hurt. kinda like reading spark plugs on a gasser.
