Biggest tires under a first gen?
what are the biggest tires i can put under a 1992 dodge ram 250 le 4x4, its not lifted or anything, and it has 16in american racing wheels on it, whats the tallest and widest size of tire i can possibly put on it without HORRIBLE rubbing?

i'm running 285s as well. the truck did come with 315s but they weren't on it, so I don't know how it fit. I'm sure the back would clear just fine, the front would probably be limited by rubbing though.

It depends on the wheel size if you go to larger than 8" wide wheel the tire will rub when turning with tires larger than 285/75/r16. there is alot of room inside, only things to watch for are the brake caliper and the front tie rods.

I'm running 255/85R16s which are about 1/2" taller than most 285/75s but much skinnier and they fit with plenty of room to spare...I would think that you could run 295/75R16s on 16x8s with no rubbing, depending on the offset of the wheel. The super swamper Trxus MTs come in a 34x12.50R16 that might fit aswell.

I had 33x12.5's on my 91.5 and they only slightly rubbed the flare and once they wore a little bit they only rubbed when you hit a hard bump. i bought it used but as far as I know it was stock height, when I first got it. They were on a 16.5x 9.75 wheel. If I remember right a 285 is close to a 33 so you may want to think about goin wider also if you're just lookin to get more rubber under the truck. I don't know what kind of driving you do but if you want to go taller and don't mind tire's wearin out quicker I know super swamper has a model that is tall and skinny, might help you get some more height without rubbin.

I currently have 295/75/16 on 8 wide rims. they will not fit on a stock truck,
They even rub with the 2in lift spring, so i ended up trimming the fenders.
Before trimming, i had less that 1/2 clearance on the front of the fender,
I have pictures if you are intrested

My crew has 315's on it and 2" front springs. They rub when I hit a bump or hit the brakes with the wheels turned about halfway...but only on the drivers side. It sits slightly lower than the pass. side.

if your front springs are in good shape you can go 35x12.50 with only a little rub at full turn and a bump at the same time 33x12.50 clear great and look great. I have good springs and a 3" body lift and have only a little rub with 38x15.50. finders are not cut. I ran 33's for a long time

well the only rubbing i have is if i hit a bump when i turn...and if i turn sharp to the right the tire catches the knuckle and grabs a bit....i got used to it quick
