Big Tires and MPG ???

I found a great 1992 350 5 sp. with 37' boggers on it. Even though I am not a big bogger fan would this reduce the MPG with this thing? I know that the weight shouldn't bog down the engine too much. Would the diamiter cause a loos of MPG or gain. the rest of the truck is solid and good runnig and rust free just the tires are a bit much for a daily driver. Any suggestions to look for on the truck would be great too.

37" Boggers= MUCH less mpg. They are much heavier (take more energy to get them spinning), and the tread rolls less efficiently-- higher rolling resistance= more fuel.

i think they might be 35's. Do you think I could pull of around 17 mpg? is a regular cab 5sp. Would changing the tires to an AT but same size help?

How wide are they? 35'' isn't TOO tall, but boggers are typically 12.5'' wide or more. That's too much for the street, imo. A less aggressive tread will help, but you'll still have similar rotating mass, and that's what's really going to hurt mileage. I bet that thing looks tougher than nails with those big meats, though!

I had 35's on mine, and went to stock size for the winter and lost a little mileage, not sure how much exactly since my speedo don't work, but I know it costs a little more with the smaller tires. I figure it is becuase I do alot of highway running and have 4.10 gears so the bigger tires are letting run less RPM's at highway speeds.

Well Just went and drove the truck and No thank you. It was very tough looking and big. Problem is sat down in the drivers seat and my chest was against the wheel with the seat all the way back! I couldn't believe it, I'm a big guy at 6'3" 290 but it was so uncomfortable. Other than the the truck was a dog. wouldn't even smoke. Smashed the throttle and it took quite a bit to hit 60. Its a good truck if your looking for a bone stock 1st gen with 35" BFG MT's. Too small for me.

I put 2x4's under my seat to raise it for me, and mine is perfect now. I'm only 6'1" and 245 though.

I understand that the rolling mass is a consideration, but I thought that the real reason that taller tires caused poor milage was because the revolutions per mile on the taller tires changes the final drive line ratio.
