Bed Spot Welds
Have you folks noticed any torn out around the forward corners of the bed floor? It's the spot welds that connect the floor (proper) to the cross-members up under. It appears to only be happening at the end of those forward of the wheel-well.
I've just completed the annual remove the rubber mat and power wash the bed floor thing. Saw them again and made it a point to ask.
I imagine those torn out are a result of the trucks twisting on launch . . . . ..
. . . . OK, not really launch, but twisting none the less.
Sooo, . . . Should we repair it? Rivets maybe? Or should we leave it alone thinking it's gonna happen again only to tear elsewhere?
Whad'ya reckon?

I have recently done a restoration to the box on my truck, I did notice those cracks. I cleaned things up and mig welded all the cracks before having the bedliner resprayed.
I attributed the cracks to the fact that this truck had a cargo shell on it all its life which when loaded (or usually overloaded) put alot of stress into structure of the box.

its normal wear for a truck that old. 1st gens ride ruff and that will cause metal fatigue everyone of my trucks show signs of it. I have a kelderman air ride on one,and it is in the best shape. the soft ride is the reason . ford chevys and the dodges have the welds pop add a lumber rack and a bad road for extended times and the beds will fall off

FWIW I noticed some minor stress cracking on mine, but it`s at the very rear of the bed on the pass side. Like others have said, it appears to be stress related even tho since I`ve owned the truck it`s been "retired" from any REAL work, lol. Just another thing to add to the list, I`ll probably weld it up one of these days.
