Bare metal Exhaust tips

Anyone know where I can find a 4"-6" exhaust tip that is bare metal?

Why bare metal you ask? Cause a friend of mine has a very nice power coating setup that works great (an old household oven and a powder coating kit )

Right now he’s gonna coat the steps off my truck to clean them up. The paint was chipping off of them and they were starting to oxidize so he forced me into pulling them off so he can sandblast them and coat them.
For the steps, he is gonna powder coat them with some new kind of black, textured, powder. When its done, it should look exactly like a Line-X job....at least thats how its advertised and thats how the pics look on the samples. But if it does work, I wanna coat my exhaust tip with the exact same coating to match the truck. Chrome just doesnt look good on mine. Its to high maintenance.

I could just order a regular tip and sandblast it with his AWESOME sandblaster setup (an old cast iron bathtub with a glass shower door and a sheet thrown over the top of it........hey, it works!!) but it'd be a shame to spend the money on it only to deface it.

So yeah, anyone know of any bare-metal exhaust tips? ad removed

You could get a 4-6 adaptor and some 6" tubing. However, I dont know if the powdercoating will hold up to the temps of our exhaust...

yeah, Ive thought about the whole hight temp exhaust aspect but he powder coated the entire muffler from a high performance 2-cycle dirt bike and it held up fine. I need to read more into it. I mean, when you bake the parts you bake it at like 400-450 so the parts will handle at least that much temp.

How about some of this paint, for poor people like me, or anyone without access to powdercoating?

Seems to me that your exhaust tip will see some 1500* at times, That is really hot even for epoxy paint, But it cant hurt anything to try!

I dont think the pipe will see 1500. I never see over 1250 egts at the manifold and it drops right back down. The pipe wouldnt stay that hot or even get that hot.

I agree- if he sees 1500 at the tailpipe, he and the front half of the truck are no longer among the living.

Try a big rig shop- some have aluminized stuff, along with plain rolled steel (I found this out on my 91 too late) and stainelss.

Well, I browsed through some powder coating web sites and there is a high temp powder coat that is used on exhaust headers that is said to last the life of the car. Im sure the tip will never get that kind of stress. There are even powder coats for engine blocks and other high heat applications. Plus, it never hurts to try. The powder coating materials really arent that expensive. I mean, a jar of powder from some of theses websites cost less than the shipping. Its not like Ill be paying an arm and a leg for a little project.

I once had a gasser, which i brazed on an exhaust tip, and found it missing one day,,, I wondered, so i brazed another one on, and found that one ajar, The braze rod which i was using melted at 1200*, So i welded it on, and all good, I am just saying, It gets mighty hot when you're running the highway, Tipping a hill, moving 1000CUft oout the rear pipe,
If what you're talking about is good for a header, then you will be golden!

why dont you just find a cheap 4"-6" tip and sand blast the chrome finish off if you cant find one bare.

Dont get me wrong, ive thought about that. That was my first idea but it seems like a waste to buy this nice chrome piece only to sandblast it and re-coat it. Plus, you would think a bare metal tip would be cheaper than one that is chromed or polished up. Plus a bare metal piece would be less work on my part. Id just have to powder it up and throw it in the oven.
