The prices on the new CTD pickups are just TOO much. I've bought 3 new CTDs so far over the years. A 91, 94 and 2000. No more crazy payments for me at this time.

I really liked my 2000, but I also liked my original 91. I bought my current 91.5 thinking the same thing everyone else is. I can dump money it in, get the satisfaction of working on and fixing it up. It will also be unique when it's done which is also a plus for me.

The first gens may be rougher riding and less luxurous, but they are tough trucks and easy to work on. The prices on replacement parts aren't that bad either.

Its funny this thread came up. I was just going thru this last week. Decided it was cheaper now to fix the ole 1st gen up. NV4500 is in, new dash in the works, and I HAVE to do something with that gosh awful wiring mess and the cracked fuse block that hangs by zip ties

You have zip ties on yours!? That's an upgrade already!
I don't even know where it's suppose top be. Just hangs from under the dash.

My fuse block was broken off of the cover so I drilled some holes in the cover and the fuse block and used small nylon ties to secure it back in the proper position. Now it screws back into the dash where it's supposed to be.

After reading all these replies, you 'awl' have made me take a second look at my '93. I just now have it back on the road on it's third transmission and second transfer case. I was getting freaked out. The ol' girl only has 108,000 miles and mostly all freeway. I've done no mods as many of you have. It's basically bone stock. It hauls a camper for recreation or to work w/o the camper. I was thinking of selling it, since it would have been a good time to do so w/ new rear main seal, flywheel, p.p./clutch/t.o.brg./bushing/trans./and transfer case. But I can NOT afford a new one. What to do )
DAVE RAMSEY ! is this the guy I'm thinking of ?
