Axle Swap... An Idea?

Ok My truck has 3.54 gears in it and it does ok going down the interstate but I would like it to do better. I know the axle ratio in the 3spd non/ic trucks were 3.07 and from reading Papecat's posts with his 5spd/3.07 it seems like an awesome setup. So assuming I could find the axle/donor truck how hard would it be to install (Brake hookups etc..) ? I think it would be easier than putting a 5spd into an auto truck. I don't tow hardly anything and 99.9% of the time I drive it back and forth to school and work with 60/40 city/hwy driving. Open to any thoughts or suggestions.

To swap the whole axle would simply be plug and play. Everything will bolt up, etc..

What about u-joints/driveshafts/pinion angle? Honestly I don't know and just asking to cover all the bases.

I don't want to say 100% it is the same, but i'll go 99% the same. The only thing I could see different is if you got one from a 4x4 to put in your 2x4 the pinion angle may end up a little different, but they do make shims. The shims are cheap and easy. The driveshaft/u-joints are a minor problem if they are different at all.

As long as you don't get a dually axle it will be a direct bolt in. Several people have done axle swaps.
