Autometer fuel gauge bouncing around

My autometer fuel gauge constantly Fluctuates 5-10 psi. It is the electric one and is T'd between the filter and Pump. Using a vulcan regulator and A 2nd gen. piston pump.

Is this normal ?

I would like to hear from someone else using the same gauge.

You need a needle valve or a snubber before the sender to damp the pulsations from the piston pump.

Wanna,

I know you have helped me out a bunch so far, would you mind posting a link to what I need ? I am using the 3/8" line.

Thanks
Chris

A needle valve can be found in the plumbing section at the local hardware store. It should be set almost completely closed, open it just enough to read the pressure but not so much that the gauge bounces.

You can get a snubber from McMaster-Carr. Their site uses javascript so I can't give you a link. Type "snubber" in the search box, you want a porous disc brass type with a 1 micron rating. The gauge may wiggle a little, but the wild swings will go away.

I would'nt waste the money trying to make it work. I tried a few tricks and it never got better. At 65mph my guage moved between 3 and 14 psi while it was bouncing! If I keep this truck I will buy an areomotive, or similar, regulator. This regulator is very poor in my opinion.
