Attn 4X4 gurus: Transfer case question

Hey Kiddies,
I'm gathering the parts to put a driveline park brake on ol' Stinky so that I can do rear disks later and need some help from you 4X4 gurus. I have a 10X3 brake assy. and drum, like what you would find on a Chevy 3500 from the late eighties. I can make an adapter to replace the rear output shaft bearing retainer and mount the brake, but I need an output yoke with a round flange, sort of like the CV flange on the front shaft, from there I can cobble up an adapter to the drum. It would be really cool if the flange and U-joint yoke were one piece, but I can work with a flat flange and bolt on yoke.

So the question is: Does anybody know of an application that has the right spline count and diameter to fit the output shaft of the 205, with a round flange on the driveshaft side?

Perchance does the front shaft have the same size output and I could just order a front flange and yoke?

Will the plane fly if the conveyer belt is made of rubber bands?

Thanks for any input, and I'll be sure and write it up if the surgery is a success.

Brian

I think the front and rear output flanges are different on the 205. I'd give quad4x4 a call or e-mail. I've done business with them a few times and they're very prompt and know their stuff.

Oh man, I have seen them, and know the kits exist. But being 2wheel drive I have forgotten all about em!! I know one kit mounts a caliper to the T-case, and like a brake rotor to the driveshaft, operated by a regular pull cable. I think someone on coloradoK5.com might be using one? I'll do some research and see what I can someup with. I can picture how to fab one right now, Make a braket on the back of the t-case, mount some sort of homemade or eldorado caliper to that braket, then mount a rotor on the driveshaft, hook it to a pull cable setup, voila! driveline parking brake.

Seems like you'd want to use a disc instead of a drum.

Thanks for the replies folks.

The brake I'm using is actually designed to be a park brake, used on RV's and small comercial trucks. It's good to 26,000 pounds or some such. I just have to find or make a yoke/flange set up for the rear driveshaft so that I can adapt the drum to it. I'm going to look into Doc's idea about the Blazer parts and call Quad 4X4. There has to be an easy way to do this. Thanks for the help everyone.

They come stock on most A-class motorhomes with a GM "P" chassis, also I think on Ford's F53 chassis. I have no idea of size or spline count, but it's a similar size powertrain.

That flange for the 205 is exactly what I had in mind. Perfect!

Thanks,
Brian
