Attempted pump mods

I have a 89 d350, and it was time to start fussing with the VE pump, It was never taken apart before, all paint origional, 1 screw head for diaphram filled with black paint.
I turned the starwheel 1 turn in cw, diaphram was not in position guessed at here, the tic mark was at 90* faced driver fender, so i turned to full fuel direction, as in the sticky files, also turned fuel screw 1/2 turn in,(one on rear up pump)
I am smoking a bit under 1/2 throttle, same haze at full throttle, But when cruising at 70 mph, clear,,, same egt cruising, But when full on gas, 5 th gear, up hill, egt will hit 11-1200, no higher,
Is there a way to clear up the haze without losing my new found power???? Spools up very quickly! I now have a boost up at 22 lbs, never passed 18 before, Now it is time for the 3200 spring!
Does all this seem normal to all of you expirenced CTD Guys?
Thank you for any advice!!!!
Peter.

Sounds real good to me. If the haze that's bothering you is while you're building boost, pull the diaphram out of the pump top and run the starwheel up 2 to 3 full turns. If the haze is still there while under full boost, you need more air. Often times a timing bump will also clear up smoke acorss the board. Happy BOMBing!

Yeah, try a little timing bump, but I wouldn't be surprised if you need more air already. The old trucks have decent sized injectors stock, so you can get 'em pretty toasty with just pump tweaks.

Hi dave,,, I did notice that the truck pulls better, I played with the smokescrew, tried 2 turns, then 1 then back to stock, very little haze, I have noticed though that i pulls like mad, then defuels faster than before, I guess it is time for that 3200 rpm spring,,, The max egt i can get now is 1100*, 5 th gear, up 8* grade pushing 55to 85 mph,,,
that is 1 turn in star wheel
cone to most fuel
fuel screw 1/2 turn
no timing change
Also up to 22 boost up from 18
so it looks good to me, How about you?
spring next, then we will see about timing, may need your help?????
Happy fourth ! ! !! ! ! ! ! !! ! ! !

Sounds healthy to me. Let me know when you're ready to do the spring.

I have a spring ready to install as well - missed the dyno day!
We could have a "mid summer spring day" - I'll bring the soda.
