ARP studs, Bottoming tap

Where do I find a bottoming tap? I'm going to be doing ARP studs shortly here and need to get a hold of one of a the tap.

Around here you can get them from NAPA. I would think most of the parts stores would have them or can order you one. Good luck with your project.

MSC, granger, Mcmcaster carr. Any place that sells machinist supplies. If you don't over heat the tap- you can grind a regular tap down a bit and make one.

Ace should have them also..

i get all my machinist supplies for MSC. You have to order some things in bulk though. Like stated above NAPA should be able to get your the size you need too.

you just need to get to the bottom of the hole. You will just be cleaning out the built up that occurred not make the hole any deeper.

In addition to cleaning the existing threads, you will cut a small amount of metal from the bottom threads. While cutting the bottom, don't break the tap.

Notice the difference in the standard tap vs the bottoming tap.
