Hey Johnny, it's been done and works well.

Line up some of your favorite beverage, maybe a meal or two, then go to the search button at the top of this page, select advanced search, put in your search question and select the 1st gen section. Then read till your eyes bleed.

There are a few conversions done with that fan.
