Another guage question

Since I'm a newby and have never owned a Cummings before, I've gone back and read over a thousand posts in trying to become an educated, or at least, a well-read newby. There are about as many threads on here dealing with guages as there are injector pumps. Well, I have one more question. I just want opinions as I'll have to decide for myself. I want at least three guages on my almost stock truck. I'm leaning toward the A-pillar mount. When your driving at night do the lights of these guages distract you or reflect off of the back window and therefore do you see them in the rearview mirror? Thanks, packratc

I have no regrets about the boost and egt autometer phantom 2's on my pillar, save that I should have bought a 3 gauge version to have a home for a fuel pressure gauge. They do not distract me when merging at night and I cannot see them when looking in the rear view mirror. If you go through the wiki, there is an article on wiring gauges to work with your dash dimmer there that is pretty nice and will lessen any distraction.

they do not distract and you do not see a reflection. we tow very heavy and our trucks are set up to where we do not need to keep the pyrometer below a certan level. the gauges is to aid in maintence and troubleshooting therefore we do not hook up the lights

My tach is on the column and it reflects on the windshield a little. Just something to keep in mind if you are considering a column mount pod.

Guage question responses

Thank you all for your replies. All are helpful. My thought was to go with the three on the pillar and later the tach on the column. Am I correct in assuming that there is not a three pod available and that I have to craft one up by using the two pod and adding a single? I don't really need any guages, I don't think, except for the curiosity of keeping track of the engine and running conditions. My smoke screw was turned in 4 turns by the PO and today I turned the 4 turns clockwise. Sure helped the excessive smoke problem. I might be satisfied with all stock settings as my truck is as much for pleasure as it is for pulling my car trailer. Since I look at all of this as just for pleasure and not necessity, I'll probably spring for all the guages and a new sound system. It is almost Christmas isn't it? Really would like to hear about a three-pod pillar system. Thanks, Packratc

gauges.....pics added

packratc:

I just completed my gauge mounting and found a three gauge mount that works "pretty well".........I got it at Auto Zone and it's made by Sun Pro (who also makes gauges but I used autometer gauges). I had to "massage" it some with a heat gun but it came out "O.K." The top edge is still "unsightly" but I'm looking for a fix.

Anyway it is the only three gauge mount I could find. I also have a tach mounted in a steering column mount I got from Geno's. I'll put up pics........

Good Luck, BKTC aka Billy

3 guage mount

Thanks Billy, I very rarely go to AutoZone but I'll stop by there and look at the three-holer. I guess it's either that or piece together the others.Packratc
