alternator wireing Q? HELP ME

ok guys my trucks coming along pretty good, but i went to wire up the alternator, and i couldn't get it to produce voltage. i know on a GM alt. you just have to energize the exciter wire, which was the brown wire. now on the back of the dodge alt. theres a blue and green wire besides the heavy wire that runnes to the batt., so is one of those the exciter? is one a tach hook-up? and if there is an exciter wire, should i ground it or run it to a +12v ignition source?

i really need sum help, so close to her being road worthy, thanks

They are externally regulated.
Here's 2 links that I found in the sticky. Hopefully one of them will help.

i used the first set up on my chevy conversion. hook one of the two wires off the alt up to the positive side of the regulator and run a wire on the same connector to the battery. make sure you seperate the power wire from the alternator to the battery and the regulator wire otherwise it will give you a funky reading. If you cant get any charge with the set up the alternator brushes are prolly bad. they have been known to go on these.
hope this helps

ok. so i definetly need to get an external voltage regulator right? that unit on the back of the alt. isn't a voltage reg i guess, because it kinda sounds like the one u guys described, it has a ground comin out of it, the 2 smaller gauge wires, n the hot lead for the batt. and maybe the brushes took a crap as well, mite try out a fresh alt.. but if it is a voltage reg on the back would i just hook one wire up to an igniton source and one to a ground? thanks again guys
